Remembering Larry Hagman

Larry Martin Hagman, the Hollywood icon who captured the world's attention and made television history on November 21, 1980 when over 350 million fans in 57 countries were glued to their television sets to find out 'Who Shot J.R.?' on the hit show DALLAS, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 in Dallas, TX at 4:20pm. He was 81.

Larry was back in his beloved hometown of Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. Larry's family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for.

Larry's passing is a loss that belongs to us all. He was a universal guy who had a great capacity to love all of us on a very personal level.

To all of you he will always be remembered as the loveable astronaut 'Major Nelson' in I DREAM OF JEANNIE, and as the man we all loved to hate 'J.R. Ewing' on DALLAS. But to his family and friends, he will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Thank you for visiting.

March 17, 2013 - The city of Weatherford, Texas is planning to honor Larry with a life-sized statue. Space for the statue has been cleared in the city’s new Heritage Park. “In the park we’re going to have the statue,” explained Larry’s longtime friend Sherry Watters, who also detailed more about the park, “… it is supposed to have water fountains, benches, trees and plants.” Larry was raised in Weatherford and Sherry says it was a special place to him. “He loved Weatherford. He grew up here. Mary Martin was born there, that’s his mother. And with Larry’s passing I thought it was only right to honor him.” The Larry Hagman Memorial Committee had clear ideas when it came to determining the appearance of the sculpture, which everyone agreed will be distinct. “It will be 6’1” — his size,” Sherry said. “It will be where he’s standing straight up, with his hands in his lapel like he always posed, with his cowboy hat on."
